Sleep Like A Log -How You Can Alleviate Your Insomnia
Author: Alan B. Densky, CH
Sleep is necessary for a person's body to work properly, grow,
and heal itself after being injured. The majority of researchers
advise that adults need from six to eight hours of sleep each
night. Frequently people, however, find themselves unable to
accomplish this. Up to 20 million people in the United States
alone have serious struggles sleeping every night.
Several elements that create sleep disturbances are to blame for
this amazing fact. For instance, a large number of persons
snore. Deep snoring may even cause sleepers to wake, surprised,
by their own noise. Furthermore, people whose spouse snores
loudly frequently are unable to sleep while such a racket is
happening in the same room!
Snoring can also be a
symptom of a similar sleeping difficulty called sleep apnea.
This disorder occurs when a person stops breathing in the middle
of sleep. It may be from obstructions in the nasal and sinus
passages, or as a result of being overweight. This problem can
be lethal, and individuals who experience sleep apnea typically
wear a mask that delivers pressurized air to their lungs when
they are asleep.
Sleep apnea can cause narcolepsy,
a different sleep disorder. Often, however, persons who do not
have sleep apnea experience narcolepsy. Individuals who suffer
from this problem typically fall asleep suddenly and without any
advance warning in any place or at any time. If a person is
diagnosed with this problem, the physician typically orders that
patient to avoid driving until the disorder is being properly
treated; falling asleep while driving can be very hazardous!
Another potentially dangeroussleep disturbance is
referred to as sleepwalking, is often described referred to in
medical literature as somnambulism. Individuals who sleepwalk
engage in the same behaviors - cleaning house, drinking,
walking, and so on - that they perform during their waking
hours. Up to 20 percent of the population worldwide may
sleepwalk.
In some instances, people have even been
reported to have left their homes or committed murder while
sleepwalking! Most frequently, however, the individual who is
sleepwalking is in significantly greater peril than those
nearby. The most effective course of action is to help the
sleepwalker back to bed.
Another problem called
shift work sleep disorder is often seen in those whose work
schedule involves rotating shifts, afternoon, or night shifts.
This problem can result in one of two types of sleep
difficulties: excessive tiredness, or an inability to sleep.
Additionally, individuals who have this disorder experience an
increased chance of cancer than those who do not have it.
Individuals who develop insomnia typically have trouble
sleeping at night. In the event that they are able to sleep,
they usually fail to sleep well
and are awakened easily. They might only sleep for a short time
before experiencing this condition.
The
consequences of this disorder include sleepiness and impaired
physical coordination. Although individuals who suffer from
insomnia frequently suffer from sleepiness, however, chronic
insomnia sufferers often learn that they are perpetually
over-alert, and have much trouble with becoming calm and
relaxed. Other potential side effects of insomnia include
physical and mental fatigue.
A large number of
have ideas about how to cure insomnia. These suggestions include
some interesting home remedies for insomnia. One of these is a
concoction of honey, tea, and milk, despite the fact that there
is no convincing evidence demonstrating that this mixture, or
insomnia hypnotherapy. Therapists who use insomnia hypnosis
teach people to develop healthy sleep patterns by teaching a
sequence of suggestions that helps them to get to sleep more
easily. People are taught the techniques of self-hypnosis to
effectively treat this problem. Self-hypnosis is a type of
insomnia hypnotherapy that is frequently effective in treating
suggestive clients, but is less useful for those who are
analytical thinkers. A very similar strategy, referred to as
Neuro-Linguistic Programming, or NLP, is usually more helpful
with these people.
Such a large number of cures
for insomnia exist that this article cannot discuss them all.
Professionals do not agree about how to cure insomnia. The
majority of people who attempt to use NLP and insomnia
hypnotherapy, however, have found them very effective in meeting
their need for sound, peaceful sleep. These innovative and
effective approaches, as opposed to medications or certain
cures, does not have any hangover or adverse effects, and can be
practiced nearly anywhere.
Summary: From five to
ten percent of the American population suffers from some form of
sleeping problem. Insomnia is a sleep disturbance that stops
people from going to sleep or sleeping well each night. Several
treatment strategies can be employed to assist them cope with
this condition. One of the most effective, as reported by those
who have experienced this treatment strategy, is hypnotherapy
for insomnia.
